In the Caribbean part of Cuba there are two appreciable isles, Isla de la Juventud (Youth's Island) and Cayo Largo del Sur — with sugar cane plantations and white beaches.
Located on the south of Cuba, Cayo Largo del Sur - or simply, Cayo Largo - is the second largest isle of Archipelago of Canarreos and the only one of the chain of isles having all available kinds of touristic activities. The Cayo Largo's major attractions are its miles of virgen and unpolluted beaches, among the best of Cuba. The Cayo Largo island also offers fabulous diving possibilities, excellent wild nature's visits and a lot of submarine fishing. Cayo Largo has one of the best Caribbean's sand banks, and the feeling is decidedly paradisiac (Alas! Millions of mosquitos have the same opinion, so provide yourself of good repelents!).
Cayo Largo has a long and rich history. It has been visited by Christopher Columbus on his second trip in 1494 and it has been continuously used as a base for corsairs and pirates, including Sir Francis Drake, Henry Morgan and Jean Lafitte.
Just like Isle of Youth, Cayo Largo was devastated by Michelle hurricane. Today, about 75% of Cayo Largo's tourists, coming with a charter package, have never visited the rest ofCuba.
